Update September 22nd: Power has been restored to the church.
As you all know, we had an unwelcome visitor last week. Hurricane Irma blew in on Sunday, and although her visit was brief, it was unforgettable! (By the way, I looked it up. There is no St. Irma, which I find completely plausible after last week!). A lot of people in Collier County suffered a lot of damage, including many parishioners – houses damaged or destroyed, possessions lost and peace of mind shattered.
Through the grace of God, St. Finbarr did very well, all things considered. We lost dozens of trees and several light poles in the parking lot. The church building itself lost some exterior lights and a bunch of roof tiles. That was about it, though. There was no structural damage to the church and no flooding. Deo Gratias!
We began clean-up the day after the storm and were quickly back in business. The big hold-up is power. As I’m writing this on Tuesday September 19th (D-day + 11) we still have no power, which means no lights, a/c, phones, computers, etc. But this too will pass. Any day now, FP&L will say “Lux Fiat” and we’ll be in business.
Please know that you are all in my prayers and I hope that you also have a speedy recovery from Irma!
God Bless and keep you always,
